There's a strong sense of community across Flintshire, and market towns like Mold, Buckley and Flint each have their own mix of independent shops, restaurants and things to do. Mold, for example, hosts one of the biggest street markets in North Wales every Wednesday and Saturday, with more than 70 stalls across the High Street and Daniel Owen Square, named after the town's own Daniel Owen, the Welsh-language novelist. There's also an indoor market and a farmers' market on the first and third Saturday of the month.
Families are well catered for too, with local schools including Mold Alun School and Connah's Quay High School among the options in the area.
If you enjoy the outdoors, Loggerheads Country Park is a great place to start, sitting within the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley National Landscape (previously known as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty). The Cliff Top Trail is an easy 1.5-mile circular walk along the River Alyn past Devil's Gorge, and waymarked paths lead further out to Moel Famau and the Offa's Dyke National Trail. There's a visitor centre and café on site too, if you fancy stopping for a coffee along the way. Add the coastal paths nearby and there's plenty to explore, from hiking and cycling to wildlife spotting.
